North Star By: James M. Redd I Cleaned out my house put the bags in my trunk. I went down to the junkyard, filled it up. I rolled a cigarette while they counted the aluminum heap. I got just enough gas to see you tonight I figured I'd call you up and tell you I'd missed my flight and then show up about three a.m. in the morn'. We used to stay out real late at night just to see Ron White with a twinkle in his eyes. He'd drink his hard liquor and tell us a joke or two. But it's real hard to laugh since you've been gone. My friends take me out and get me real stoned But even that old trusty bud has lost its punch. Chorus: But when I wonder where you are I just find the north star And I see it pointing south, you'll be home again Cause it don't matter how poor you are Love can heal every scar and it Makes earth's most distant points come together again So I put on my finest flannel shirt I got all dolled up like I was going to church I wanted it to be like we started all over again But then I heard my dog's barking out in the yard It was probably some old bastard selling firearms But I rolled up the window to see the makeup running down her face So I offered her a cold cup of coffee she said, "I've been off to Houston but I'm back you see. I pawned off my T.V. cause I just had to see you today." I said, "That's all right I think we'll be OK cause sometimes you've just got to fight to be free!" She said, "I kinda like it when you grow out your beard." Chorus Tag And if we believe all of our lies, It will come as no surprise that love can heal each scar no matter how poor you are.
